Location: VA | Hi- just bought a beat up late 67-early 68 balladeer. After getting it home and cleaning it up I noticed that the nut had a small brass plate on the fretboard side. Very thin piece of brass with string slots, so the strings hardly hit the nut. Has anyone ever seen this before? Was this common on early Balladeer's? I can't find any reference on the interent. This guitar has had some repairs, the headstock was broken, so I imagine the nut is not original, but the previous owner had no history on it. Thanks |

Location: Utah | Sounds like an enut. It's kinda like installing a zero fret, or a shelf nut. It fixes bad intonation somewhat. See http://www.monteallums.com/Stretch_Tuning_DW.html for an explanation. Earvana and Buzz Feiten also make products to solve the same problem. |

Location: VA | I am gonna install a new nut anyway, the nut behind the brass is cracked/chipped. Just didn't know if I needed the brass. Nice touch though. |
