Yesterday I heard on the radio that the local GC was having a sale on the Squier '51 Reissues for $69. So, what the heck, I decided to pick one up. They come in colorful boxes on the shelf so I did not get to do any sort of inspection. I get it home and YIKES! Every fret is hanging over the fretboard and are nearly razor sharp! Being the handyman I am, rather than take it back, I decide to make a project of it and fix them myself. I get out my fine tooth metal file and go to work. I get done with the frets but now they have the filed end look. Then my wife comes up with a brilliant idea. She says, "Why dont you use my nail shiner, the one with the 4 sides". So I go check it out, and its PERFECT! So I polish up the fret ends and then take it to the fret faces as well. What a great find! These things are $1.50 or so. They have four progressively finer surfaces, the final buffer really brings out a fantastic shine. I also used it one the faces of the frets and they came out great, none of the new fret gritty feeling to deal with. This seems like it would work well to buff out any dings or light grooves in your frets too.

I just thought I'd pass this along. Seems a lot cheaper than the sand papers in the automotive stores and it nice to have a quick all-in-one tool to throw in your guitar tool kit. ;-)
