Recently won an auction for an Ultra GP. Knowing the approximate market value, I got it on the low side.

I have sent the seller 5 emails with no replies and the telephone number listed on the winning bid email had a number that has been disconnected. I'm concerned because I checked the sellers feedback and found several complaints about not sending item sold.

I sent an email to Ebay and they answered back to send the payment and if the item isn't received to then enter a dispute claim.

I feel like risking the hit for negative feedback instead of sending a grand out to an unknown...what do you all think?

bad spot to be in. Had similar situation. It was a fraud hacking into ligt account. ebay pulled the item before it sold fortunately.

Even if they try to give you bad feedback you can respond and justify nonpayment due to their feedback reflecting items not sent. It is unfortunate you found this out after you bid.

Dont send payment until you've heard from the seller.

Unless he communicates, don't pay. Unless you live within driving distance of Antioch, CA and have the time to sue him.

Tim ... definitely do not pay until you get some contact with the seller and satisfy yourself that it's legit. If it helps, I live about 30 minutes from where the seller says she's from.

If I recall correctly, ebay keeps a portion of the money if they end up refunding your payment.

I had a weird transaction, similar to what you are experiencing Tim, with my FD 14 which, turned-out O.K.
The seller got caught-up and busy, didn't respond to my emails for a week and wasn't returning calls.
After about a week from end date, he contacted me, apologized and shipped at his expense, express.
It is a holiday weekend... Not saying, "don't cover your ass" but, take a breath and then.... go from there.

Tim, I live about 35 minutes from the seller. I can do a pickup for you if you want. I probably ask stonebobbo (if he's available) to come with me to check out the guitar before giving her any money...

Also, if you do pay, do it by credit card. Paypal/ebay hates that because if things go sour, you can contact the credit card company and tell them you never received merchandise.

They will immediately refund your money and take it back from paypal. Paypal will email you and bitch and moan but you will have your money and it is better than waiting on paypal to resolve anything!

If you go into ebay there is a place where you can get the contact info and phone number for the seller. Call the seller and find out what is going on.Leave messgae, if there is a machine, that if you are not contacted in 3 days you will not be paying for the auction because you believe it to be fraudulent. Also remember that many people go away for Memorial Day weekend so be very polite and business like in your message.

If you can't reach seller by phone then send a certified letter to contact address with return receipt. Explain that unless you are contacted immediately , you will noy be paying as you believe the auction to be fraudulent.

Also send email, with read receipt requested, and inform seller that if you are not contacted in 3 days you will not be paying.

After all of this, file a police report in the home town of seller.

If you decide to pay, I agree with the credit card strategy.

I have over 700 ebay transactions and have only run into about 2-3 real idiots.

Regards,

Tom

They are scamming you, don't send the money.....and complain to ebay first....sure they can send a blackmail feedback, but I rather have the bad feedback instead of loosing a ton of cash, while the dudes running away with you money. Also remember you can do the same to him.And e-bay is a major pain in the butt at times also........so you won't get anywhere with them.
