Saw this term in a number of ads from dealer on ebay i.e. "This new Ovation Twelve String Guitar is an Ovation FRG guitar."

Does FRG stand for a "second" or "blem" ? Thank you.

Regards,

Tom

Factory Reconditioned Guitar. Do a "search" and you'll find plenty of information on seconds, errr I mean returns, oooops no what I really meant to say was overstocks, crrrrap I slipped again. OK, just do the search and you'll be well versed in all aspects of FRG. Except perhaps what in fact the really are ...

Dr. Tom, as Dave said, there has been a lot of previous discussion on here as to exactly what an FRG is; the concensus has usually come out to that it is an instrument that had an issue that made it impossible to be sold as a 1st quality instrument. The issue was repaired, and an FRG label added to inform the customer of that fact.

Now as to exactly WHAT issues are allowed to be repaired and then sold as an FRG, it hasn't been perfectly clear. But it seems more likely it was an electronics issue, than, say, a run in the finish or a substandard binding. Most people on here who have purchased FRGs say they can't find ANYTHING wrong with them. Which is probably the intent by KMC.

Don't believe Ovation sells "seconds" or "blems". This is as close as it gets.

I have a new definition for FRG.

FRG are Ovations that have been deemed to be of the same build quality as other name brand guitars.
