Location: Indiana | Hi everybody! I just joined this site and am in awe of the great info here!
I just have a quick question. I still have the very first Ovation Balladeer that I saved up and bought sometime around 1971-1973-ish the best I can recall. It has a model # on the oval sticker inside the sound hole of 1111-4 but I see NO serial number on the sticker at all. The only other number I see is if you're looking through the sound hole at the end of the neck, inside the body, it has the number 7432 stamped on it. Any idea what year this guitar might have been made? It's a deep bowl 6 string and the bowl appears to be shiny with a "pebbly"-like texture.
I don't really care about a value. It's just the first guitar I bought as a youngun and simply curious as to what year it was made.
Thanks in advance

On my 1617-4 Legend which was made a couple years after your Balladeer, the serial number is on a small, white, rectangular sticker located very near the base of the neck and above the oval Ovation label. So I'm assuming the 7432 you found is indeed the serial number.
In the OFC's REFERENCE section it shows that the early series (1966-1981) with 4 digit serial range from 1000 on, were made between Nov. 1967 and July 1968. |
