I'm new here..tho I've had a VXT some time now. I just got a 2078LX ($800 brand new) woo hoo !...but anywayz..it seems to me like the bass side action is a little high...the treble side seems fine....took it to my tech, but he didn't think a shim removal was too good 'cause the treble side may be too low then. So I talked to John Budny at Ovation and he is sending me out a tapered shim...which should do the trick. My question is..When I take the saddle out of the bridge slot, will the pickup be attached to the saddle,...or sitting on the shim...and is this much of an ordeal?...I've done my share of Strat body teardowns & rebuilds, but nothing on an accoustic.

It's easy. Just reach in the back hatch and push up gently on the wire to the pickup. Watch the saddle come up and pay attention to what it looks like. Probably a couple of shims in there.
If you measure the space between the strings and the 12th fret you could calculate how much lower it will be when you take out a shim. There should be less space under the high E than there is under the low E.

Welcome OR

Have you checked the neck relief?
Wise to do that before touching the shims

Also, there may be a tapered shim already in there that just needs removing.

Very simple operation as Mark said.

Oldrocker, is it just possible that you're trying to get the treble strings to be like an electric? Acoustics always tend to have a higher and harder action. I almost never play electrics, and always get surprised at how light the action is when I first pick one up.
