Say you've got an early nineties O with a satin neck. And you want it glossy. Sending it to Mother is obviously the first answer but does anyone know...

Is there enough satin finish on the guitar to allow a good body man to buff it to a gloss finish?
Anyone ever tried?

What model is it????
The Adamas II 6 string I just got it.
Been playing it a lot and not hint of my hand polishing it to a sheen like it did on a Balladeer LX or my Martin my D-28 for that matter.

Dave Witko the guy I got the Adamas II 12 string
from had a high gloss finish put on it.
I really like it. I was thinking of having my 6 string done glossed.

If nobody has any other suggestions maybe we can a little off with 2 being done.

Glossing at the factory is VERY expensive. If it's a satin finish like the UTE neck, you can use some polish (like scratch X) and bring it up to a semi-gloss..

Trader Jim is right. I did that with a mini Less Paul copy and it came out to a nice semi gloss. I used a buffing wheel attached to a drill and meguire's scratch x. You can see the results in my gallery. (Which as I understand it will soon be defunct.)

You can bring a satin finish neck (or a satin finish guitar) to a semi gloss luster with lots of buffing, or playing. I've got a martin Steve Howe model that people think has a glossed neck. Truth is it's a satin neck with lots of miles on it. If you want a real gloss finish and seal there's really only one way to do it. But be warned that it's easier on some necks than others. The mid 90's and later necks that were almost bare wood are pretty easy to do. But the real satin finish necks (like an 87 Collector) are more difficult. Glossing is not cheap but it's a nice upgrade. I've done $3k worth.

PEZ, what I'm contemplating is a 1763. Yeah... slot head... could be fun. Haven't seen it yet and don't remember from the few satin necks that I have seen if the finish looked deep enough to work with. Sounds like there's been some success buffing so that's encouraging. I'm gonna do it. Satin made great stage clothes in the 80's but I don't care for it much on my guitars.

Dave, if when I do this I'm not enamored with the results, about how many gloss necks does $3K buy?
