Its at Guitar Center Manchester Ct
Looks like it needs a neck reset and has alot of play wear but its only $399

Had an interesting conversation with them.
The clerk asked why I was buying 3 guitar straps.
I told them I bought 3 Adamas guitars.
After explaining what an Adamas is; I explained that that they had 0 chance of selling me one because you never had one for me to try in Premium Acoustic room. Yet you have them on website.

I wanted to VXT with single coils
0 VXTs in the store.

Never understood that. The GC here in Columbus has some of the lower end Ovations and 1 or 2 of the LX line. Like you I had to explain what an Adamas was and I've never seen one there in 4 years! Wouldn't you think they would have at least one in the "high end" room????

In this Guitar Center they have photos of Mothership both outside and inside. Plus a made in Connecticut sign shaped like licence plate.

(my last ex got all excited and bent out shape
by the pict. She was with me when picked a repair.
She pointed picture told 5 or 6 people in GC "I've been there!" LOL)

Yet all they had was a Legend LX 12 and Standard Elite LX and 3 celbs and thats all.
4 used ones.

The stores can't keep the good ones in stock. And mother can only build so many good ones every year. They're all getting sold already.

Totally agree but there just no excuse for not KNOWING what an Adamas is. (I found that with no less than THREE saleskids in my local GC just two weeks ago - "...we can probably order one, if you need us to but I don't know exactly what that is."

...sigh....

I can Guaruntee that the Manchester Ct store PEZ is talking about has NEVER had an Adamas in the store. I've been in there many times, atleast once a month and most of the sales "kids" there
think a Celeb IS the only Ovation guitar, Idiots!! I've said this before in other posts. How can you be 37 miles from a quality Guitar Manufacturer and NOT support it? I know its a National Buying "thing" but, Ovation is now owned by Fender, arguablly the most well know name out there.

The national buying doesn't cut it.
They had a Martin D-45 in there.
I doubt they sell too many of those.
Since they can "get one" the they are in the warehouse ready to ship.
The 2 American Ovations were so high up the wall you had to get a clerk to get one down.
In the prem. acoustic room the D-45 was easily in reach for anyone to try. Along with many other Martins Taylors & Gibson models over $2000
There really is no legit excuse for them not having Adamas line, Custom Legend, Custom Elite, Legend Elite and the 3 VXT in stock.

Last Winter I ran into a guy at a Bristol Ct Open mic, who was showing off an Ultra he just got.
He really thought that was the Ovations best.
The clerk at Daddys Junky who sold it to him told him they stopped making Ovations in the USA a long time ago. He was shocked when I open my case and showed him a brand new 1719. He wasn't happy seeing that.

Then again I have never seen a New USA Ovation in West Hartford Daddys.

You can't sell guitars to people who can't try and compare in the store.

I am kinda sick of hearing I don't like Ovations but that one sounds good. Shocking but the $1500
guitar sounds a lot better than $500 guitar.

KMC in total is pretty big player before Fender.
Guild has had the same problem only imports
and no one can find USA made ones without huge effort. Hopefully someone will solve both problems.

One thing we all can do is ask for them if we only see Celbs. If enough of us do that things may change.

I suspect the guitar market is becoming more and more of an internet thing. My 08C was a no brainer. I could only buy it on the internet, so I have to buy sight unseen (& unplayed) relying on the reviews of others.

A similar thing is happening with technical books for my profession. No one else has them in stock, so I go to Amazon. The more I do that, the less likely it is that my local bookstore will have the next book I want.

Most high end guitar purchases are made by people who know what they want. Most guitar sales are low end "I think young Johnny will learn to play guitar, but I'm not sure so let's buy something cheap".

I think this situation will only get worse. But at least I have Al's email address for when the stars align for the next purchase.

Most of the people I have seen buy high end acoustic
tend go and try everything they can find till they one says buy me. Earlier this month, I went looked at a Gibson Workin Mans 12, it seemed like after thought to make a 12. Tried to find a New Guild F512 to try. Found none, but after seeing a Tacoma Guild 6 string fret I ruled work ruled out. My Westerly Guild was far better.

(so is New Hartford Guild I saw but not making 12 strings yet and not sure when)

I tried at least
6 Taylors and they all sounded bland.
No more Custom Legend 12s made.

{don't other peoples signature
model so ME Adamas 12 was ruled out.}

I decided to
buy a New Adamas W598.

Then I could only get one online.
I was real uncomforable wondering if I'd like it.
Turned out liked it alot.

Blindly Buying a Standard Elite LX Contour did work out so well. I really really don't like the contour bowl.
I just went on extended loan to my Nephew.

I tend to agree. In the past 10 years, the only purchases I've made that followed a test-play have been from friends (Stephen and Fugot). Everything else has been sight-unseen on-line, this forum, or over the telephone to New Jersey.

When I first joined this forum I thought that it was just little podunk out-of-the-way Boise that didn't have any guitars for me to try, so I had to resort to the internet. It is either reassuring or disappointing that the problem is the same all over the world.
It's not just an internet thing, though. There are always several high end Taylors and Martins at the local GC, an occasional high end Gibson acoustic and scads of expensive electrics. I have seen hundreds of those brands over $2000, but no Ovations or Taks over $2000 at the local GC. That tells me it's a marketing issue.
A few months ago Gavin Morrison contacted this forum because he wanted to try a decent Ovation or Adamas and couldn't find one in Boise. A couple weeks ago he bought my 99 Collectors. That was nice, but it would have been better if someone in the business of selling guitars had them available for him to try out and purchase.
