Several people have emailed me about this. If I win it I won't keep both SB's. Just want to compare the two and then resell without markup. I didn't dom the BIN because I figure if someone really wanted it and was was willing to pay big money, then they should have that chance. Dave

So Dave,

Tell us all about it. Has it arrived? Survive Big Brown? How does the latest addition to the OFC 1537 collection stack up?

OK. Here's the lowdown. The 1537 arrived yesterday from UPS and the box was in pretty bad shape. One entire corner was crushed and right in the middle (almost dead on through a "Fragile" sticker) the thing looked like it had been skewered by a fork lift or something. I expected the worst. None of this was the fault of the seller, by the way. Reminded me why I always use FedEx (plus their trucks are better looking). Anyway, the seller did a great job of packing the guitar and deep within it's cacoon of foam and bubble wrap all was safe. The case did it's job, big time.

The guitar is beautiful and a perfect match for my 1st one. Each has a little nick here and a smudge there, but basically as nice of a 23 year old guitar that you'll find. They both play great and I would imagine sound identical. But they have very different strings right now, so I have to restring. The new one is fine, it's actually my old one that I didn't realize the strings were so dead. I'll restring and compare tonight.

As much as I'd LIKE to, keeping both is not an option. But DAMN, they sure look nice sitting side by side don't they ???

Dave

It's your turn, Waskel. Noah was kind enough to sell me his extra. Someday I'll be rich enough to have 2. Make that 3, I'd like a 1547, too.

Hmmm. Got my eyes on a 1581 right now...I suppose these guitars are too different to compare?

1581 and 1537 are like day and night difference. You have to have both! The 1581 (day) is bright, loud and vibrant. The 1537 (night) is dark, mysterious and mellow. An incredible combination of guitars, if I do say so myself. Dave

Dave --- did you change the strings on your older 1537 last night, and if so, any difference in sound? Also, in the pic you posted, which is which, older and newer?

Interesting, looking at the pic, seeing the difference in the burst......

What difference? Other than the inlays and the bridge, they look like the same guitar.

Paul, I got too busy last night to change strings. We have company staying over for 2 days starting tomorrow and the spare bathroom hadn't been cleaned in quite some time. You know the deal - "Honey, are you busy ?"

On the 1537's the burst is only different in that one has a larger black outer zone. The inner amber part is amazingly identical. I expected more of a difference, but there's not. Actually the photo makes the guitars look more different than they really are. Biggest difference is the burst on the back of the neck. One is more black and the other is more amber. Forget which is which. The guitars are so identical in looks and condition that you'd never be able to tell them apart. Except that one is 2 lbs lighter than the other. In the photo above, the older one is on the right.

I'm sure when the company arrives tomorrow (2 female friends of my wife), that I'll have plenty of private time locked in the music room. Wanna come and visit?

Dave

Is that a truss rod cover I spy on the one on the right? Just decoration or am I missing something here?

Speaking of the lotto.....The local guy who bought #1 of 40 Paul MaCartney signature Epiphones for $40,000....also hit the lotto for 182 million a while back. Who woulda thunk?
