Hi folks,

New memebr here, looking to pick up my first Adamas, or so I thought...

Shopping around (on line) I've found a nice W597 that I was giving serious consideration, as well as the UTE currently on the bay (the 1 that supposedly belonged to GC, played by Ziggy M & looking a little dusty), then came across a 1597 for a couple hundred $s less.

What confuses me about this 1 is, it says "Ovation" on the headstock, and has an Ovation SN. Is this a legit situation? Would it be a lesser quality instrument than a 'true' Adamas?

Thanks for any input,

Kevin

& Merry Christmas!

KV,

First of all, welcome to the Ovation 'Hive Mind'!

I have a 1598 SMT (non-Melissa) that has Adamas on the label and Ovation on the headstock. What does your label state?

For a short period, around 1998, maybe '99 the Adamas SMT was issued with the standard Ovation headstock logo rather than the Adamas logo. Don't know if this was a conscious decision by the factory or a glitch, but either way it didn't last long. I've only ever seen this on the SMTs. Apart from the logo there's no difference.

I, too, have only seen this on the SMTs. I had one and asked Kim Keller about it. He said the factory ran out of the Adamas headstock facings and used the Ovation version for a short time. The label inside is what counts.

This is my understanding as well.

Ok, you've got 3 Paul's agreeing on something. The world should be ending soon as a result......

There's also the opposite. Elite 12-string with Adamas logo.

Thanks for the replies...

Since it is a legitimate Adamas, and hundreds (at least 2!) than anything else I've seen, I took the plunge and ordered it.

Here's the gbase link:

Hopefully I'll have it by the end of next week.

Maybe in time I'll feel the need to upgrade to a textured top Adamas, but it seems to me like a great place to start. Bet it'll sound better than my Seagull, or even my 3/4 sized Applause!

That's a real nice guitar at a really good price. I like the outies and that burgundy color is very unusual. You ought to be very happy, Kevin. I think it'll sound better than your Applause, too. :) Welcome to the club. Let's us know when you get it!
