Acoustic amplification: I can get a one-year old Acoustisonic Jr. DSP for $300, or a new Shen Jr. for $350. All you guys who use these on a regular basis, which should I go with?

I have two of the Acoustasonic Jrs with DSP as well as a Shen Jr. Both models have similar features and should work equally well. The Fenders are more powerful and, IMHO, have a little better effects to my ears. In addition, the Fender provides separate EQ and DSP options for each channel, so if you're running a mic through the amp as well as a guitar, you can customize the eq and effects separately. If you intend to gig with the amp, the Genz is lighter and easier to handle, and with its metal speaker grill, a bit more rugged. The OEM amp covers for the Genz available through Al are much better than the Fender amp covers. Price-wise, the Fender Acoustasonic Jrs w/DSP all seem to sell for $300. That is exactly what I paid for both of mine used but in excellent condition. Check with Al on the price for the Shen Jr. I don't think you can go wrong with either amp. They're both excellent coffee-house sized do-it-all acoustic amps.

The ADD Cub will run you another couple of hundred dollars over the fender and Genz models. The Cub is also not as readily available as the other two amps you're considering. In addition, the Cub has no built-in effects. If that is important to you, you'll have to use some pedals or a modeler. On the other hand, the Cub is more powerful and significantly smaller and lighter than either the Fender or Genz. It is a very well-made boutique amp with astounding tone from its two 5" speakers. I use mine as a personal monitor for my weekly band gig.

One other interesting note . . . since Genz is part of Kaman, and Kaman is now owned by FMIC, and these two models seem to fill the same marketplace niche, what is the likelihood they'll continue to be offered in the future? I don't see Fender amps going anywhere. They've been around, what, 60 years?

The Genz weighs 35 lbs compared to 47 for the Fender. The AAD Cub weighs 11.5 lbs.

I believe Paul Templeman uses a CUB for his live gigs.

I really like my little Ashdown Reso1 acoustic amp, real small and easy to carry around. I paid $700 though used.
I got the GB shenJr and it's a good amp, given me no trouble and sounds good.
