I recently bought a collectors 2002 edition. Very happy with the sound, but the action is a little high. I removed the shim, but action still too high. The neck is perfect, but seems to be set a bit low. Is this a common problem, any information would be welcome. I have had a professional appraisal and suggestion that "shaving the bridge" would be a possible solution, but he admitted he had little experience with Ovation guitars so naturally I'm reluctant to proceed. Any suggestions would be welcome

Shaving the bridge is a last resort where a neck reset is not cost-effective, or in this case where there may be technical challenges. The 2002 collectors is post K-bar but pre LX, and I'm not sure how the neck is attached. I'm guessing bolted, but nowhere near as easy to reset as an LX neck, largely because the fingerboard extension is glued to the top. Bottom line is, shaving the bridge will work on a pinned bridge, but could really screw-up a pinless bridge, depending on how much material needs to be removed, so I would avoid it. Contact Ovation customer service and ask for advice on the neck joint, and the practicalities of a local luthier performing a neck reset.
