Hive mind:

I have an old pacemaker with a bit of sentimental value that could use some fret work and new binding. Does the mothership do this sort of work on older Ovations, and if so, do they do it in a restoration type fashion?

Also, if they do such work, will they also work in upgrades? For instance, would they replace plastic binding with wood binding, if the price were right?

And speaking of price, if they do such work, is it your experience that these procedures are cost effective or make even remote economic sense? In other words, would a factory fret job and re-binding normally be so cost prohibitive that one would be better off searching for and securing another example of the instrument in better condition?”

Any thought or direction would be most appreciated. If anyone happens to know someone that works at Ovation that might be able to offer an opinion, I’d greatly appreciate their contact info.

thanks,
Richard

The factory does great work. Contact John Budny and get an estimate for the work you want. You can decide if it's cost effective. I PM'd you his email address.

Thanks so much folks, I sent an email to John at Ovation to inquire.

Jack, you may have got an email kick back from the PM - my listed PM address is old old old, and I'll need to update it here to make it current.

Richard, I sent them a Pacemaker (of No sentimental value) and they sent me a New Guitar.

But they will do as much or as little as you want. They gave me a new bowl/top at a reasonable price. Plus they dressed the frets and cleaned-it-up. I thought that they put new tuners on it, but no... That was what they looked like when they were Clean!
They even put the old Silver sticker and serial number sticker back in the bowl.

Before and After...

Incredible...thanks so much for sharing that. Now I really can’t wait to get an answer back in order to get things rolling.
