Location: Campbell River, British Columbia | Just realized, in the middle of the night with a full moon, that I'm the last surviving member of a band I was in for a short time in the 80's. Island Drive.
Kevin Greene, one of the best musicians and shyest people anyone ever met, died of stomach cancer almost 15 years ago.
Tony Mullion ran a red light and was T-boned on his way to work not long after.
Now in the paper Greg Nixon, drummer and drinker extra-ordinaire is dead.
Except for Kevin I never stayed in touch. Y'know how you're not necessarily close personally to band mates?
There's a memorial Tuesday, I think I'll go. Maybe the guy I replaced will be there and we can hoist and pour in various memories.
Makes me think, like the 82 year old Dutchman I was interviewing recently for a song I've been puttering on for years called "The Man Who Won The War" (about just surviving), I'm winning! |

Location: Utah | Our naturally designed lifespan is something like 35 yrs. I said FU to The Grim Reaper once and cheated him out of my carcass, and been saved at least twice with modern medical miracles (antibiotics).
I plan on living another 48 yrs, but you never can know what is around the corner. |
