| The red battery light on my 1778T Elite (OP30)comes on when I push the tuner button, so I thought I'd go ahead and replace the battery. The online fit-all Ovation manual gives the following instructions:
"See the illustration on the last page for instructions on replacing the battery."
[There is no such illustration, only the following:]
"To Replace The Battery:
The battery on all OP30, OP40, OP50 and OP Pro preamps is located behind the preamp module. Release the preamp by pushing the button on the left side. Simply slide the cover on the back in the direction of the arrow to gain access to
the battery."
Huh? After pushing the release button, I cannot remove the preamp module (using a fairly gentle tug, as I don't want to cause any damage), assuming that's what I'm supposed to do. What's up? I thought I'd consult this kind and knowledgeable forum before heading up to my garage for the vice grips.
Any help is appreciated. |

Location: Jet City | I had the same problem with my LX. I had to get a little forceful with it that first time.
Just use caution and common sense.
Does it pop up just a little when you press the button? |

Location: closely held secret | Sometimes pushing the button and releasing it quickly pops it out enough to get a hold of it.
Sometimes you may need to insert a very thin blade along the left edge between the preamp and the can and gently persuade it. |

Location: Agawam MA | After pushing the button try pressing gently on the far right hand side of the pre-amp. That pushes the left hand side up enough to grasp with your fingers and then remove it. Well, at least it does for mine.

Location: Boise, Idaho | What Steve said. Also turn the guitar over so you can use the fingernails that you have on your right hand. I assume you don't have any on your fretting hand. |

| Thanks to all -- yes the module does pop up a bit when I hit the release button. I also started down the "thin blade" path, but I thought I'd check here first to ensure I wasn't missing something obvious.

Location: Boise, Idaho | Losov, I'm the last one to advise on public performances, but I think most use phantom power now. Changing the battery in the Optima might be a split second faster, but it is not foolproof. This fool has proved it. All of my oval preamps pop out easily and I can actually see the tuner. I couldn't see the tuner on the Optima.
Stratboy, I was a bit facetious in my first post, assuming you weren't a fingerstyle geek with fingernails on your right hand, but not your left. If you use picks, there is a little slot on the left side that shows when you hit the button. A guitar pick works perfectly if you need to pry it up with something. |

I thought that meant that you had Juice. Like on the OP-Pro...
I just put a fresh battery in my OP-30. :D
Thank y'all... If it wasn't for this thread I would be using a dying battery.
As to opening... Push down firmly on the release button, then snap your hand away quickly.
Once the module comes up enough, you may have to grab it and Pull (carefully).
Mine is a tight fit also.

| Mark - I don't use the phantom power because I use downstream f/x and a volume pedal. I also find the tuners on the Op-Pro Studio between frustrating and infuriating. Love the Optima. (I do change my battery frequently, so It's not really an issue on stage) |

Of course, getting an OP-Pro out is nothing compared to popping the battery door on an Optima and having the battery shoot up into your face. |

Location: Utah | Order your 2080 with OpPro Studio. Use phantom power via XLR for live performance if you don't like batteries. I like to replace the battery before an important gig so I don't have to worry about it on stage.
Plus, NO DUMMY PLUG needed to run the tuner on the Studio when you're just playing at home unplugged. |

Location: Utah | Important gigs, not every one. Most of my playing is not very important. For my daughter I will replace the battery if it seems like it's been a while, or when she has a paying gig. I figure a couple dollars is worth it to avoid the worry. |
