Hi:

Thanks is advance to anyone who replies.

I currently own an, "Ovation Celebrity GC057M Mid Depth Acoustic/Electric." I love the Ovation; I loved it when I first played and still love it.

I still have the factory strings on the Ovation-.12.

I'm going to restring the Ovation, but I'm wondering what the string range of an Ovation is?

So, for example I know my Squire cannot go beyond .10 and I generally string it with .8 Slinky.

So, what is the range of the Ovation? What are the best string manufacturer for the Ovation?

Thanks for anyone who replies.

I think Beal has barbed wire on his longneck. Does that come in a range of gauges?

Ugh, have no clue what you mean or why you are responding to my post.

I reported your post.

Australia is not on my list of places to visit--never has been.

Can someone answer the question? I am not able to find it online.

I think TAKFAR may have been referring to the cable the I have heard Beal uses for strings :)

Seriously tho to answer your question.. one of the great things about Ovations is that you can put just about any gauge strings you want, make the appropriate adjustments of the shims and neck if needed, and you're good to go.

As for "recommended", I would just look at the hang tang that came with the guitar or the instruction book.

Much like gauge, brand and style are all very subjective. One person's best is another least favorite when it comes to strings, and yet to others, it doesn't matter at all.

Try a variety to narrow down what YOU like. Do you like heavier or lighter, coated or non, brass or stainless, ginger or maryanne, etc..

Unless you're going to tune down a half or whole step, I wouldn't go any heavier than .13-.56 (mediums). And it should handle those just fine....

Mr. Ovation and Moody thanks for the response.

That is what confused me. On acoustic .12 is considered light-medium. I've never played beyond .9 on my Squier.

When I first started playing the Ovation, my fingers were just raw for over a week. It was like starting to learn to play guitar over again.
My fingers adjusted and I want to go to the heaviest string size that will not harm the Ovation. The reason being, I want to develop stronger callouses and finger strength because that helps my Electric playing a lot.

I will go for mediums .13-.56 when I restring my Ovation.

Thanks for the reply.

And TAFKAR, I apologize but I had no clue what you were talking about and to me it sounded threatening. I still don't know who the musician Beal is, but I solely listen American Classic Rock and Blues. So, that is not to say he is not famous. It is just, I am no familiar with him or his work.

Australia might be a great country, but you guys are far too aggressive for my comfort. That is not a bad thing, it is just that I don't like dealing with aggressive people. I kind of like dealing with more laid back, relaxed people because that is what vibes with my personality.

So, I apologize, I did not mean to offend your country. It is just I did not understand what you were talking about and it sounded offensive.

I once owned a 1718 that I had D'Addario EJ17's on... 0.013-0.056

They call them Mediums, but they are pretty hefty.

The guitar really liked 'em.

I think it's safe to say that Beal is an American classic.

Don't sweat it QTemp. We'll work on your sense of humor. In the meantime, if you really like your Ovation and want to learn more about it, take the time to read through the archives on this site. You may even learn who Beal is.....

I just looked up Beal and he is a Jazz musician. I'm not a fan of Jazz. I understand the idea behind Jazz, to step outside the confine of Keys, but because of that same method I don't find the music pleasant.

Ugh, I get a lot of comments for my lack of sense of humor. I'm not into dark humor and I guess a lot of musician have this dark humor. I have a lot of trouble interacting with musicians for that reason.

Well, I just had one question so I probably will not post again. The, "medium," string advice sounds great and I really appreciate it from Moody.

I think a nice new goal is to buy a Taylor acoustic--I like the brighter sound. In this way I can maybe find an instrument which can handle, "Heavy," strings.

Thanks again, sorry if I am on the serious side but that is just how I am.

I'd be careful of a Taylor. Those guys on the Taylor forum can be REALLY dark. Check out the Daisy Rock guitars...step gradually into the world of men.

I don't see how any of us could have not sensed that QTemp is a troll from the very first post.
.
The next step is this... QTemp will take great offense, say that I'm a mean person, then claim himself a victim. After all... all he did was ask an honest (yet incredibly inane) question.
.
I'll watch from the balcony but I've seen this movie before.

Well, as usual, I don't really get musicians.

Do you have jobs? Do you act this way at work and among friends and family? Do you have friends and family?

Do you act tough in real life or just on these boards? Is this the only way for you guys to feel tough? Talking trash on a forum, does that make you feel more like a musician?

If you are tough in real life, PM me and I will give you my home address and we can take care of business. Or, I can PM you a place we can meet and then we can take care of business.

I promise you I will meet you there. I will come alone unarmed and I will take care of business. You can come armed and you can come with as many people as you like. However realize, if you come armed or with others that gives me the right of using lethal force and I will and you will not be able to regret it.

So PM me and let's take care of this in real life.
If you don't PM me you are just a monumental pussy who only finds belonging on internet forum.

Finally:

Slipkid, Darkbar, Moody what constitutes a troll these days?

I had a question. I could not find the answer online. I go on here and look for an answer, then I get a bunch of junk.

Now, if you were funny than I would laugh. But you guy's aren't funny. I don't think any of you make people laugh in real life. I don't think any of you really have much of a life.

I'm not certain what throwing in the Taylor at the end is bad. This thread is about Ovation. I just indicate the Taylor in the end as something I might want to look into in the future.

What am I supposed to be loyal to Ovation and Ovation alone? If I play anything else along with my Ovation, does that make me an Ovation traitor?

Again, unfunny. In fact, even the fact a musician uses the word, "Troll," to me indicates more experience online than onstage.

So, yah PM me and we can take care of all this in real life.

Really? I think that is some revisionism going on even with the entire thread history still here. For future reference, revisionism is tough to pull off. However to even have a chance of pulling it off, you have to get rid of the real history.

So, I'm insulted several times. Look back from the beginning and see how I am insulted--blatantly, unabashedly. Those who insult me are not, "trolling?"

However, I ask questions and those are interpreted as, "insults." They would only be insults if the answers are in fact negative. Maybe you people do have lives, maybe you do have friends, maybe you are good musicians, maybe you are funny to some people.

Unfortunately, the questions are insults because more than likely all the previous answers are wrong. I'm not the cause of the questions being insults, the way you live life is an insult. Don't be so sensitive, that last statement is an observation and not an insult.

Physical threats? I never made any threats. I explicitly indicated I would meet anyone who wants to be tough in person. I explicitly stated I would be unarmed and alone. There is no threat there. It is not directed at anyone. I'm inviting you to be a man and meet me in real life and prove you are tough.

If anything my response is an invitation.

I still have not received any PM's

You know irony. First, you guys insult me and insinuate I'm a wimp. Then, you indicate I am going to respond as a victim.

However, I respond with courage...then, you reply as a victim.

Come on folks you can't be a victim and a bully at the time same time. Chose one and be it.

I personally don't pick on anyone. However, I do enjoy fighting people much larger than me. You know, "the bigger they are the harder they fall." I know for sure that is true.

This Welcome Center did achieve it's goal. I know this is not a place to post.

I'm not going to insult anyone with this last post. I've proved my point about you guys and your types. This was helpful for me because now I see who the problem is.

Hint: it's not me that is the problem.

QuestionTemp,

I had 2 guitars stolen this past August and joined then posted on the OFC forum to that effect. Thanks to this forum and the eagle-eyed Mike Winters I have recovered the Deluxe Balladeer my Dad left me and am on my way to getting my Adamas Millenium back....warrants have been done.

There is a long history here and a quick browse through the archives will answer the all important question of 'who is Beal?' In short, at one time he had the finest collection of polyester shirts in existence. He knows a thing or two about Ovation history as well. I managed to read up a bit here just to get the lay of the land, even though my association with Ovation goes back over 40 years.

A post may have touched a nerve with you but that is no reason to start challenging forum members to 'meet you in the back parking lot at 4 o'clock to settle things'.

C'MON MAN!!
